Citizenship project - Year 2Our project mascot 'Eury'

Eury.

Eury visited our school in the month of January 2002.

The first day in this month is a very important day in Holland. The beginning of the New Year.

We celebrated that day with lots of fireworks at midnight. A lot of people are outside at that time.

All the people wish each other:

Happy New Year

Prosperity

Good Health

Eury celebrates a new year!Eury also celebrates Happy New Year 2002 with a glass and a bottle of wine.

For this special event she wears a special bow.

She also shows the Euro

Her special wish for this year is: May every school finish the project work very well

May the work that we do help our feelings of being European.

May it improve our quality of contribution to this year's project.

Last new year in 2001, Holland was shaken up like in a horror film.

In Volendam, that’s near Amsterdam, youngsters used sprinkling stars as fireworks in a café. The sprinkling stars set fire to the Christmas decorations on the ceiling. The consequences were appalling. Fourteen youngsters died. Many others were badly burned by the fire.

They ran out into the street and neighbours gave them first aid by using water, showers and baths for the injured.

Many people worked together to help them: neighbours; parents; family; police; fire brigade; hospitals. Even the prime-minister and the Royal Household.

Our theme for the start of 2002 is working well together.

Co-operation.

The whole country was proud on their co-operation last year in Volendam.

We, as a group want to show that only great co-operation can give outstanding results in our project work.
